12/13/2023 0 Comments Obs screen recorder mac slowSame problems for both recording and streaming. I’ve tried reducing the canvas to 1280 instead of 1920. I’ve tried lowering frame rate to 30 instead of 60. I’ve tried changing the encoder to the Apple one. Mac latest Catalina (tried it on 2 different ones)ġ or other iOS device for different angles Video is glitchy to the point of going into slow mo on an iPhone as an input when trying to stream, a window capture is juddery visuals wise.Īnd the common theme is CPU showing in OBS as 25-32% but showing in Activity Monitor as 120-140% (although Activity Monitor will show overall CPU usage as only around 40%!) This week OBS became a nightmare with everything since the latest Mac and OBS updates. Thanks to the members of the OBS forum for pointing me in the direction of this thread. It appears that the CPU measurement indicated in OBS is way off. Top indicates 162% while OBS says 36%.įor the third test I replaced the window capture with display capture and the discrepancy was more that the media source (test 1) but a lot less than the window capture (test 2.) Top says 98% while OBS says 12.9% Top indicates 42% CPU vs 5.4% in OBSįor the second test I swapped out the media source with a window capture of Quicktime playing the same video and the CPU discrepancy was much more significant. The first test was streaming and recording to FB using a media source playing a video and using my MBP camera as a video source and I did a see some discrepancy between the amount of CPU that OBS reports vs what Catalina says. The CPU utilization in top didn't vary by much once the stream got going. I did however let top stabilize each time and you can see the simultaneous CPU use in both programs. I used top to get CPU measurements so they are more of a snapshot than a benchmark. My canvas was 1280x720 and any windows I used as sources were also 1280x720 to minimize scaling activity. My streaming settings are for Facebook and I use the Apple Hardware encoder for both streaming and recording. I ran some tests just using the built-in webcam and a 1280x720x30FPS video streaming to FB. I'm running MacOS 10.15.4 and OBS 25.0.8 on a mid 2015 15" MBP with SSD and 16G RAM. I move the OBS window to the Color LCD laptop display and the CPU jumps to ~140%. I start out with the OBS window on the Cinema HD display and the CPU is ~105%. In the video, I'm recording the Cinema HD external display. I've attached a recording and log file showing the issue. Resolution:đ920 x 1200 (WUXGA - Widescreen Ultra eXtended Graphics Array) Metal: Supported, feature set macOS GPUFamily1 v4įramebuffer Depth:Ē4-Bit Color (ARGB8888) (These are the logs from the synthetic load test.)
